One of the selected vehicles to be displayed in Porsche's 2010 L.A. Auto Show standPorsche is celebrating 60 Years in America, introducing a search for the oldest Porsche in the country.

Porsche’s North American division calls the initiative the My Classic Porsche Search. The project is a nation-wide search for the oldest Porsches and covers 12 models, also aiming to find the oldest Porsche of all.

The challenge is open to all Porsche owners who have documents for the cars, with the 12 model ranges including the Porsche 356, 911, 912, 914, 924, 928, 944, 968, Boxster, Cayenne, Carrera GT and Cayman. As we said, the company is also searching for the “Grossvater” of all U.S. Porsches.

The automotive producer has launched the dedicated Porsche60Years website, with the on-line entries being accepted starting from today. The company has also released a video for the project.

The oldest Porsches and their owners will receive special recognition and become eligible for additional awards, including a special badge from the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.

The automotive producer said that images of selected models will be featured in the new “Sixty Years of Porsche America” exhibit that opens on October 12 at the aforementioned location. One of the vehicles might be selected to be displayed at the Porsche 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show stand.

In addition to the My Classic Porsche Search, Porsche is unveiling a national My Porsche Passion Contest on Aug. 24. Porsche aficionados will have the opportunity to write and upload a 500-words-or-less story that exemplifies their unique passion for a specific Porsche car, an experience or the brand as a whole. The three entries with the most votes will win an all-expense-paid trip the Porsche Sport Driving School in Birmingham, Ala,” stated the press release.
